Flex-A-Lite 485 Electric Fan Installation in a 1998 Jeep TJ Wrangler

We recently installed a Flex-A Lite Fan, Model 485 in my 1998 TJ Wrangler.   The instructions were very accurate and straight forward which made for an easy installation.

This particular Jeep Wrangler is exposed to some abusive terrain and occasional water so rather than using the supplied butt connectors we soldered the wires together and used heat shrinkable tubing to insulate the joint.  The terminal and spade connector ends were soldered as well.  We used Permatex Dielectric Grease on all of our connections to prevent any corrosion or high resistance connections.  This is important with any vehicle that is subject to high moisture conditions.

The performance of the fan is exceptional for the style of driving that it is subjected to.  Most of the time this Jeep is used for off-roading in the trails, hills and sand dunes in Indiana and Michigan.  This high RPM driving and slow speeds tends to build up heat quickly in the engine.  The FLE 485 Fan continually cycled on and off keeping the engine at constant temperature.
